August 2023

The Bahamian government signs a contract with the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) to reaffirm the goal of achieving 30% renewable energy reliance by 2030. This contract forms part of the national Integrated Resource and Resilience Plan (IRRP), aimed at long-term energy sustainability.

MAY 27th, 2024

Launch of the BTVI Apprenticeship Programme, which aims to train Bahamians in energy-related fields, including the maintenance of solar and LNG infrastructure.

OCTOBER 15th, 2024

Commissioning of the Duel Engine Turbine in New Providence, adding 62 MW of energy to the grid. This milestone helps address infrastructure challenges and prepares the grid for additional renewable energy integration.

November 7-8th, 2024

Energy and Transport Conference: The Ministry of Energy and Transport in The Bahamas will host a conference highlighting the country's efforts toward achieving its 2030 renewable energy goals. The conference will focus on innovations and solutions for accelerating the country's energy transition through innovation and connectivity.

June 2025

Two LNG generators at Baillou Hill will become operational. Additionally, the Integrated Resource and Resilience Plan (IRRP), which includes provisions for disaster resilience, will be finalized.

august 2025

Completion of the LNG pipeline from Clifton to Baillou Hill, facilitating the transition to cleaner energy.

Q1 2026

Family island projects will be completed, incorporating renewable energy solutions like solar and battery storage to enhance energy reliability.

MAY 2nd, 2024

Commissioning of Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Generation Systems for three schools: T G Glover Professional Development and Research School, C V Bethel Senior High School, and Doris Johnson Senior High School. This initiative, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), is a critical step in incorporating renewable energy in public institutions, advancing energy resilience against climate-related disasters.

july 1st, 2024

Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) Equity Rate Adjustment comes into effect. This initiative reduces base electricity tariffs for residential customers and introduces a more equitable rate structure. Households with lower energy consumption will see significant reductions in their monthly bills, with savings of up to 40% for those using 200 kWh or less.

OCTOBER 2024

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) will be signed with independent power producers, formalizing partnerships to support the renewable energy agenda and infrastructure development.

April 2025

Completion of transmission and distribution upgrades in New Providence, modernizing the electrical infrastructure and reducing energy loss.

june 30th, 2025

New Providence will be fully powered by LNG, reducing the island’s reliance on heavy fuel oil and increasing energy efficiency.

july 2025

The new Energy Policy, in collaboration with URCA, will be released, focusing on sustainability and affordability for Bahamians.
